Jimmy Carr was convicted of speeding yesterday after a two-year battle to avoid punishment for the 2008 incident.
A police speed gun recorded that the comedian was driving his Bentley GT at 50mph in Boxford, Suffolk, on April 30th two years ago.
Bury St Edmunds magistrates court ordered Carr be fined £300, pay £1,860 in prosecution costs and attain three points for driving 10mph over the 40mph speed limit.
However, Carr’s lawyer Nick Freeman, who specialises in exploiting technicalities, was trying to get the charge dropped against him on the basis that the speed limit was wrong because the street name where Carr was caught speeding did not match up to the documents.
According to the Mirror, Mr Freeman said: "I’m sure Jimmy Carr will be disappointed. But we will take time to reflect.
"My client will pay the fine but if we appeal and are successful, he will be fully re-imbursed."
When asked whether he was embarrassed at having lost the case, he added: "This is not the first time."
Meanwhile, the crown prosecution service lawyer David Hutson said he was "pleased" with the result and hoped it would act as a "deterrent" for others who break the speed limit.
Mr Freeman has successfully defended Carr, who did not attend the court hearing, on two other driving charges, using a mobile and speeding.
