Gibbs signs contract extension with Gunners

Wenger is pleased Gibbs has pledged his future to Arsenal

Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs has signed a new long-term contract with the club after breaking into the first-team last season.

Gibbs filled in at left-back for Gael Clichy at the end of last season and played in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and Champions League.

The 19-year-old also went on to make his England Under-21 debut with Stuart Pearce’s side at the recent European Championships.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he was excited that a player with so much quality and potential had committed himself to the Gunners on a long-term basis.

Wenger said: "Kieran made such a great impact last season and the progress he made throughout the year was fantastic.

"Kieran is an intelligent player with huge quality and he proved last season with his performances that he has great potential.

"We’re delighted that Kieran has committed his future to Arsenal and we’re all excited to watch his future development at the club."

Having made his Arsenal debut in the Carling Cup in 2007, Gibbs made 21 first-team appearances last season, including eight in the Premier League and four in the Champions League.

Gibbs joins fellow Arsenal youngsters Theo Walcott, Lukasz Fabianski, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere in signing contract extensions with the club this summer.ADNFCR-2262-ID-19250562-ADNFCR
